If you've searched for simple name embroidery designs, you've probably seen a hundred examples that look almost identical. Simple means different things to different people: a clean block letter, a flowing cursive, a small monogram in a wreath. This post shows 8 simple styles that work, with notes on who each suits.
1. Single block letter
One bold capital letter, your initial or someone else's, on the left chest. The most universal option. Best on white with black thread, or black with white.
2. Two initials side by side
Two letters next to each other, first and last initial or two people's initials, with clean spacing. Works on any base colour, especially with serif fonts.
3. Single first name in cursive
A name in flowing script. More personal than block letters. Best on cream or pastel shirts with a rich-coloured thread like burgundy, navy, or olive.
4. Initials in a circle
Two letters inside a hand-stitched circle, framing them like a personal logo. Adds structure without complexity. Best on solid-colour tees.
5. Year in roman numerals
A year in roman numerals, like MMXXIV. Looks like a tattoo, but in thread. Best on a darker shirt with gold or copper thread.
6. Heart between initials
Two initials with a small heart between them, like a couple's monogram. Best on white or pastel with red or burgundy thread.
7. Name in Hindi (Devanagari)
A name in Hindi script, which is beautiful on its own and feels personal. Best on black or navy with white or gold thread for contrast.
8. Single letter with floral surround
One initial inside a small wreath of flowers and leaves, where the flowers frame rather than distract. Best on white or cream with mixed colourful thread.
Choosing between styles
A few things we've seen play out across many orders. The shorter the name, the bigger you can go: a single letter looks great at 2 to 3 inches, a longer name reads better smaller. Cursive works best for full first names, while initials stay clearer in block. Hearts and small symbols suit couple's pieces but can crowd a single letter. And Devanagari and other non-Latin scripts look best on solid bases, not patterned fabric.
How to order
Three things help us get it right. Type the exact letters or name in the cart note, and we confirm by call or WhatsApp. Tell us the style: block, cursive, serif, or send a reference photo. And give a thread colour, or just say matching or contrasting and we'll pick. For custom orders we take a small advance, with the balance on shipping, since a custom piece can't be resold if it's abandoned.
How long it takes
Custom name pieces take about 2 to 3 days.
