Short answer. Compare brands on six things, not on Instagram followers: stitch evidence from the fabric reverse, GSM stated in writing, whether artisans are named, how deep customisation goes, whether a repair policy exists, and whether the delivery window is itemised rather than promised. Apply the same six to every brand you shortlist.

We are not going to publish a ranked list of Indian hand-embroidery brands, because we are one of them and any list we wrote would be worthless to you.
What we can give you is the framework we would use, and how we score against it, including where we come off badly.
The six criteria

| Criterion | What good looks like | What to walk away from |
|---|---|---|
| Stitch evidence | Reverse-side photos supplied on request | Only front-facing studio shots, ever |
| Fabric disclosure | GSM and cotton type stated as numbers | “Premium fabric”, no number anywhere |
| Artisan model | Named people, one identifiable studio floor | Vague artisan claims plus stock photos of hands |
| Customisation depth | Name, script, thread shade, placement, all adjustable | Fixed designs with a name slot |
| Repair policy | Restitching offered after purchase | No mention anywhere on the site |
| Delivery honesty | Queue plus stitching plus courier, itemised | “Ships today” on hand-stitched work |
The six criteria, side by side
Tap a criterion to compare a good answer with a reason to walk away.
Stitch evidence. Ask for a photo of the fabric reverse. Stitch quality is visible only there, so front-facing studio shots alone tell you nothing.
Fabric disclosure. GSM and cotton type should be stated as numbers. “Premium fabric” with no number anywhere tells you nothing.
Artisan model. Look for named people on one identifiable studio floor, not vague artisan claims beside stock photos of hands.
Customisation depth. Name, script, thread shade and placement should all be adjustable. A fixed design with a name slot is not customisation.
Repair policy. Good brands offer restitching after purchase. Walk away if a repair is not mentioned anywhere on the site.
Delivery honesty. The window should be itemised: queue, then stitching, then courier. “Ships today” on hand-stitched work is the warning sign.

How we score, honestly
Stitch evidence: strong. Ask and you get the photo.
Fabric: strong. 220 GSM combed cotton on tees, 400 GSM on sweatshirts, stated on every page.
Artisan model: strong. Women artisans on one floor in Bulandshahr. Mansi runs it and does final QC herself.
Customisation: strong. Name, script including Devanagari, thread shade and placement. See custom hand embroidery.
Repair: adequate. We restitch pulls, but it is not written up as a formal policy with a stated turnaround, and it should be.
Delivery: weak on speed, strong on honesty. Seven to fourteen days is slower than most competitors. We would rather say that than have you find out on day nine.

Two things that look like criteria but are not
- Follower count. Measures marketing spend. Not stitch quality.
- Order count. We have shipped over 5,000, and you cannot verify that number any more than you can verify anyone else's. Use it as context, never as evidence.
Where the Indian market actually splits
Three broad groups. Heritage ateliers doing zardozi, chikankari and aari work, priced for occasion wear rather than daily tees. Contemporary studios like ours, doing everyday cotton pieces with modern motifs. And resellers, who buy machine-embroidered stock and photograph it beautifully.
The first two are both legitimate and answer completely different needs. The third is the one the six criteria are designed to catch.

Shortlist, then test with one order
Run the six criteria, shortlist two or three, then buy one low-cost piece from each and wash it twice. That test costs about ₹3,000 total and settles the question permanently. The twelve questions to ask before paying are here, and how to read the reviews is here.
Our range: hand embroidered T-shirts, embroidered shirts, embroidered caps.

Frequently asked questions
How do I compare hand embroidery brands in India?
On six checkable criteria: stitch evidence from the fabric reverse, GSM stated as a number, whether artisans are named, customisation depth, a repair policy, and an itemised delivery window.
Are Instagram follower counts a good signal of embroidery quality?
No. Follower count measures marketing spend. Stitch quality is visible only on the reverse of the fabric, which is why that photo is the first thing to ask for.
What is the difference between heritage embroidery and contemporary studios?
Heritage ateliers do zardozi, chikankari and aari work for occasion wear at occasion prices. Contemporary studios stitch everyday cotton pieces with modern motifs. Both are legitimate and answer different needs.
How do I test a brand before committing?
Buy one low-cost piece and wash it twice. Across two or three shortlisted brands that costs roughly ₹3,000 and settles the question better than any review set.
Should a brand publish a repair policy?
Yes, and most do not, including us in written form. A studio that expects you to still own the garment in year two has an answer ready for a pulled thread.
Who wrote this
Vee Threads is a hand-embroidery label run by Vikash Tomar and Mansi from a studio in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Every piece is stitched by hand by women artisans on the studio floor, on 220 GSM combed cotton tees and 400 GSM sweatshirts. We have shipped more than 5,000 orders. Mansi runs the studio and quality control, Vikash handles the digital side. Prices, timings and hours quoted in this article come from our own production records, not from industry averages.
