About Vee Threads

Every stitch on this site was made by a person, in a village in Uttar Pradesh.

Vee Threads is a hand-embroidery studio in Kutubpur, Bulandshahr, about three hours east of Delhi. It is run by Mansi and Vikash. We make oversized cotton tees, sweatshirts, shirts, denim caps and socks, and the embroidery on all of them is done by hand, with a needle, by women who live within walking distance of the studio.

That is the whole business. There is no embroidery machine on the premises.

We have shipped more than 5,000 orders across India. The two of us still read every enquiry that comes in, so when you write to us you are talking to the people who run the studio, not a support desk.

Why we do it the slow way

A machine can put a sunflower on a t-shirt in a few minutes. It will be flat, identical to every other one, and it will be sitting on a backing that stiffens the fabric. Hand embroidery takes hours instead of minutes, and it costs more. What you get for that is thread that sits in the cloth rather than on top of it, small variations between pieces, and stitching that doesn't peel the way a heat-pressed print does.

It also means the money goes somewhere specific. Hand embroidery is one of the few skilled crafts that can be done from home, on a flexible schedule, in a village with very little other paid work available to women. Every order routes income to the person who did the stitching.

What we actually make

  • Tees — 220 GSM cotton, oversized / drop-shoulder fit, unisex sizing. Motifs run from sunflowers and botanicals to animals, hearts and custom names.
  • Sweatshirts — 400 GSM cotton fleece, loose fit, unisex.
  • Caps — acid-wash denim and cotton, unisex, adjustable, one size. Denim holds fine detail better than knit, which is why the work on the caps reads sharper. Real thread, never an iron-on patch.
  • Socks — small floral and motif work, cotton.
  • Custom pieces — names, initials, couple monograms, birth years and Roman-numeral anniversary dates, stitched to order.

The traditions we work in

India has dozens of regional embroidery traditions and they are not interchangeable. We work mainly in three: kantha, the running-stitch tradition from Bengal and eastern India; shisha or mirror work, where small mirrors are anchored to the cloth with a framing stitch; and floral surface embroidery using satin, chain and knot stitches. If you want the longer version, we wrote a plain-language guide to Chikankari, Kantha, Phulkari and mirror work.

Buying from us

We ship across India and internationally. Stock orders are dispatched within 1–3 business days; custom pieces take up to 7 days, because someone has to stitch your name before it can go anywhere. Returns are open for 30 days on unworn items with tags, though not on personalised pieces, which can't be resold. Full detail is on the shipping and returns page.

If something arrives wrong, email abdvikashtomar@gmail.com or message +91 95285 83327 on WhatsApp and we will sort it out.
