Short answer. Four channels sell hand embroidered sweatshirts in India: a local karigar, an Instagram seller, a marketplace like Etsy, or a studio that owns its embroidery floor. They differ less on price than on who picks the blank fleece and who carries the risk when the work is wrong.

Searching “embroidered sweatshirt near me” mostly returns uniform shops that run machine heads on school blazers. Useful if that is what you want. Not useful if you want hand work on 350 GSM fleece.
Here is each channel, written by people who sell through two of them.
The four ways to buy
| Channel | What you pay | What can go wrong | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Local tailor or karigar | ₹400 to ₹1,100 per motif, you supply the sweatshirt | No GSM control on the blank you bought; usually a machine head | Adding initials to fleece you already own |
| Instagram seller | ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 finished | Machine work on 280 GSM fleece sold as hand work | Fast, low-stakes gifting |
| Etsy or marketplace | ₹2,000 to ₹5,000 | Fees and customs add up; longer shipping | Ordering from outside India |
| Studio with its own floor | ₹1,785 to ₹4,463 finished | Slower. 4 to 5 day queue, longest in winter | Custom names, gifting, anything you keep |

Local tailor or karigar. The quote is ₹400 to ₹1,100 for the motif, but you buy the blank yourself at ₹600 to ₹1,200. Real totals land at ₹1,000 to ₹2,300, with no GSM control and usually a machine head.
Instagram seller. ₹1,200 to ₹2,500 finished. The risk is machine work on 280 GSM fleece sold as hand work.
Etsy or a marketplace. ₹2,000 to ₹5,000. Fees and customs add up and shipping takes longer, but it is the channel that makes sense from outside India.
Studio with its own floor. ₹1,785 to ₹4,463 finished. Slower, with a 4 to 5 day queue that runs longest in winter, and the only channel that can show you the fabric reverse before you pay.

The two questions that decide a channel
Telling hand work from machine work is its own subject, and we wrote it up separately in how to spot real hand stitching. Read that before you pay anyone.
What is specific to choosing a channel is narrower. Two questions.
- Who chose the blank? A local shop stitches whatever sweatshirt you carried in, so the GSM is your problem. A studio picks its own, and ours is 350 GSM brushed cotton fleece. Below about 320 GSM dense stitching distorts the fabric permanently, and you will not know what you bought at a market stall.
- Do they use a topping on fleece? This one filters channels hard. Anyone genuinely hand-stitching fleece lays a water-soluble film over the pile first. Walk-in shops running machine heads at speed almost never do, because it is time they are not paid for. If the seller does not know what you mean, they have not stitched fleece.
The two questions, drawn
Tap to see why the blank and the topping decide the channel.
You carried the blank in. A local shop stitches whatever sweatshirt you bring, so the GSM is your problem, and from a market stall you will not know what you bought.
280 GSM. The Instagram risk: machine work on 280 GSM fleece sold as hand work. Below about 320 GSM, dense stitching distorts the fabric permanently.
350 GSM. A studio picks its own blank. Ours is 350 GSM brushed cotton fleece, clear of the point where dense stitching starts to distort.
Ask about topping. Anyone genuinely hand-stitching fleece lays a water-soluble film over the pile first. If the seller does not know what you mean, they have not stitched fleece.

Buying from inside India
Direct from a studio is the only channel where the person replying can see the embroidery frame from where they are sitting. Mansi runs ours. When someone asks whether a name will fit across a hoodie chest without hitting the hood seam, she measures it on an actual garment.
Our range: hand embroidered sweatshirts, embroidered hoodies, and names and initials if you want something personalised.

Buying from outside India
Use our Etsy shop. The listing prices there are higher because marketplace fees and international shipping are baked in, but Etsy handles the customs paperwork, which is genuinely worth paying for. Ordering to an Indian address, buy direct, it is cheaper for you.
If you are still deciding on a design, our Pinterest boards have close-up stitch photos of most of the range, which is easier to browse than a product grid.
Turnaround, before you commit
Nothing is stocked. Every piece is made after you order. Our queue runs 4 to 5 days, then 2.5 to 18 hours of stitching, then courier. The full timeline is here, and the short version is: order 14 days before a gifting date, 20 during December.
Anyone offering same-day dispatch on hand-embroidered fleece is shipping stock or shipping machine work.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy real hand embroidered sweatshirts in India?
Directly from a studio that owns its embroidery floor. That is the only channel where you can get a photo of the fabric reverse before paying. Local shops, Instagram resellers and marketplaces mostly sell machine work.
How do I know if a sweatshirt is hand or machine embroidered?
Ask for a photo of the reverse. Hand work shows knots, thread tails and uneven float; machine work shows a uniform bobbin grid and a stiff backing sheet. Also ask whether they use a water-soluble topping, because anyone hand-stitching fleece does.
Can I buy Vee Threads sweatshirts on Etsy?
Yes. Etsy prices are higher because marketplace fees and international shipping are included, but it handles customs paperwork for orders outside India. Within India, ordering direct costs less.
Is it cheaper to take my own sweatshirt to a local shop?
The quote looks cheaper at ₹400 to ₹1,100 for the motif, but you buy the blank yourself at ₹600 to ₹1,200 and carry the GSM risk. Real totals land at ₹1,000 to ₹2,300 against ₹1,785 for a finished studio garment.
How long does a hand embroidered sweatshirt take to arrive?
Seven to eleven days door to door in India: a 4 to 5 day studio queue, 2.5 to 18 hours of stitching, half a day of finishing, then 3 to 6 days of courier. December runs longer.
See the stitching up close. New designs and studio detail shots go up on our Pinterest first. Shipping outside India is easiest through our Etsy shop, which handles the customs paperwork.
Who wrote this
Vee Threads is a hand-embroidery label run by Vikash Tomar and Mansi from a studio in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Every piece is stitched by hand by women artisans on the studio floor, on 350 GSM cotton fleece for sweatshirts, 400 GSM for hoodies, and 220 GSM combed cotton for tees. We have shipped more than 5,000 orders. Mansi runs the studio and quality control, Vikash handles the digital side. Prices, timings and hours quoted here come from our own production records, not industry averages.
