Custom name hand embroidered floral t-shirt, ordered online and delivered across India

Short answer: When you search "embroidery near me" you will find three kinds of shop: a tailor with a home machine, a computer embroidery unit, and a hand karigar. Ask which method they use, ask to see the back of a finished piece, and get the price, the thread colours and the date in writing before you leave your clothes.

"Embroidery near me" searches in India doubled between 2021 and 2026 (Google Trends). The related searches grew even faster. We run a hand embroidery studio and ship across India, so we are honest about when a local shop is the better call and when it is not.

The three shops you will find (tap each)

Tailor with an embroidery machine

Quick names and simple motifs on a single machine. Cheap and fast, good for school uniforms and a name on a towel. Limited colours and detail.

Computer embroidery unit

Multi-head machines run from a digitised file. Best for logos on 50 or 500 shirts. Expect a one-time digitising charge, and a stiff backing patch inside each garment.

Hand karigar or aari worker

Hand work for blouses, lehengas and one-off pieces. Beautiful, slower, and quality varies a lot by person. Look at their past work closely.

8 questions to ask before you hand over your clothes

  1. Is this by hand, single machine or computer embroidery?
  2. Can I see the back of something you made?
  3. What is the total price, including digitising or design charges?
  4. Will you show me the thread colours before you start?
  5. Will you use stabiliser on my t-shirt, and is it cut-away or tear-away?
  6. What exact date will it be ready?
  7. What happens if a letter is misspelled or the design is off-centre?
  8. Have you stitched on this fabric before?

The longer version, with what good answers sound like: 12 questions to ask before you pay for custom embroidery. For caps specifically: cap embroidery near me.

Check on pickup

  • Spelling, letter by letter, before you pay the balance.
  • Centring: fold the garment in half down the middle. The design should split evenly.
  • Puckering: lay it flat. Ripples round the design mean tension or stabiliser problems.
  • The back: loose loops and long jumps between letters will snag.

Questions

Can a local shop embroider on my own t-shirt?

Usually yes. Ask them to use stabiliser behind the design, and check the fabric is at least medium weight, or it will ripple.

Is computer embroidery the same as hand embroidery?

No. Computer embroidery is machine work from a digital file. See hand vs machine embroidery.
