What kind of fabric is it?
This sets the yarn thickness. Pick the closest match.
Advanced: yarn count and crimp
An estimate from thread count, usually within 10โ15% of a weighed result. Finishes and embroidery add weight it can't see.
How it works
With a scale: your four taps tell the tool where the paper is and how big it really is. It straightens the photo, measures the swatch area to the half millimetre, then divides: GSM = weight รท area. Accuracy depends mostly on your scale. A 0.1 g scale on a large swatch is good to a few GSM.
With the camera only: the tool finds the repeating spacing of threads along each line you draw and converts it to threads per inch using the ruler. Each direction adds threads per inch ร 39.37 ร tex รท 1000 ร (1 + crimp), the standard woven-fabric weight formula, where tex = 590.5 รท cotton count.
