Short answer. It depends on the embroidery you want. For hand embroidery, buy from a studio that does its own stitching, as we do. For machine embroidery at a lower price, the big casualwear brands and marketplaces are fine. Wherever you buy, zoom into the photos and read how the design was made, because "embroidered" covers four different things.
We're one of the places on this list, so read it with that in mind. We haven't ranked anybody. What we can do is say what each kind of store sells, and show you how to check a listing in about a minute.
Four things sold as an embroidered T-shirt
Tap one to see how to recognise it.
Hand embroidery. A person stitched it with a needle. Expect a wait, because it's usually made after you order, and a price that reflects the hours.
Machine embroidery. Real embroidery, made by a programmed machine in minutes. It's consistent and it costs less. A sound choice for logos and team orders.
A patch. The design is embroidered separately, then ironed or sewn on. Look for a border running all the way round it.
An embroidery-effect print. Ink drawn to look like stitches. Zoom in and there are no shadows and no thread direction. It should never cost what embroidery costs.
Five kinds of place, and what each one sells
| Where | What "embroidered" usually means there | Good for | Check before you buy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand-embroidery studios, like ours | Stitched by hand, usually to order | Custom names, gifts, pieces you'll keep for years | The wait. It's made after you order |
| Big casualwear and pop-culture brands | Machine embroidery, sometimes a patch | Lower prices, fast delivery, licensed characters | Whether it's stitched in or stuck on |
| Craft-led lifestyle retailers | Varies by product: hand, machine or print | Indian motifs with easy returns | The method, on each product page |
| Marketplaces such as Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart and Etsy | All four kinds, mixed together | Comparing prices | The seller, and reviews with photos |
| Instagram sellers | Hand or machine, often unlabelled | Something a friend has already bought | A reverse-side photo before you pay |
How to check a listing in one minute
- Zoom in. Real thread has shadows and a direction. Ink is flat.
- Find the method in the description. It should say hand embroidered, machine embroidered, patch or print. If it only says "embroidered", ask.
- Look for a fabric weight. A number in GSM tells you more than the word premium. Dense stitching needs heavy cotton under it.
- Ask for the reverse side. Knots and thread tails mean a hand. An even grid on a papery backing means a machine.
- Read the returns line. Custom pieces usually can't go back.

Hand or machine: which should you buy?
Machine embroidery is real embroidery. It's consistent, it costs less, and for a logo across fifty team tees it's the sensible choice.
Hand embroidery is for the piece you want to be the only one. A person stitches it, so two tees are never quite the same, and a pulled thread can be restitched years later. The cost is time: a machine finishes a design in 8 to 20 minutes, and one of our tees takes between 2 and 14 hours.
Hand embroidery vs machine embroidery compares how the two age.
What you should expect to pay
A printed tee runs roughly ₹250 to ₹400. Machine-embroidered tees from large brands cost more than that. Hand-embroidered tees cost more again, because you're paying for hours of one person's work. Ours run from about ₹1,231 to about ₹5,000.
If a listing says hand embroidered and the price sits near a printed tee, ask for the reverse-side photo before anything else. What a hand embroidered T-shirt costs in India explains what moves the price.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I buy embroidered T-shirts online in India?
From hand-embroidery studios, large casualwear brands, craft-led lifestyle retailers, marketplaces such as Amazon, Myntra, Flipkart and Etsy, and Instagram sellers. Each sells a different kind of embroidery, so check the method before you buy.
Where can I buy hand-embroidered T-shirts in India?
From a studio that does its own stitching. At Vee Threads every tee is hand-embroidered by women artisans in Bulandshahr, on 220 GSM cotton.
How can I tell if a T-shirt is really embroidered?
Zoom into the photo. Real thread is raised and has shadows and direction. A print is flat. For hand work, ask for a photo of the reverse side and look for knots and thread tails.
Are hand-embroidered T-shirts worth the higher price?
If you want a piece nobody else has and that can be repaired, yes. If you need fifty identical logo tees, machine embroidery is the better buy.
Can I get my name embroidered on a T-shirt?
Yes. Our custom name tees start at about ₹1,449 and are priced by the number of letters. Type the name in the order note and we confirm the spelling before stitching.
