Short answer. Buy from a studio that does its own stitching, or from a marketplace seller who will show you the inside of the cap. Most caps sold as "embroidered" are machine work, which is fine if that's what you want. For hand work, look for uneven raised thread, knots on the inside, and a design that curves with the crown. Our caps start at about ₹999.
"Embroidered cap" describes three different products. One is stitched by a person. One is run off by a machine in a few minutes. One is a plain cap with a patch attached. All three are sold under the same two words, often at similar prices.
We make the first kind, in Bulandshahr. Here's how to find it, from us or from anybody else.
Three things sold as an embroidered cap
Tap one to see how to recognise it in photos.
Hand embroidery. Stitched with a needle, one cap at a time. The design can curve round the crown and run onto the side panel, which a machine hoop can't follow.
Machine embroidery. Real embroidery, run from a file in minutes. It's crisp and it costs less. The design stays inside a neat rectangle on the front panel.
A patch. The design is made separately and then ironed or sewn on. Look for a border running all the way round the motif.
What to look for in the photos
- Stitches that aren't all the same length. A hand varies. A machine doesn't.
- Thread that stands off the denim. Knots and padded stitches throw a small shadow in a close-up.
- A design that bends. Hand work can follow the curve of the crown and cross a seam onto the side panel.
- Differences between two caps of the same design. If the seller shows several, compare them.

Where hand-embroidered caps are sold
| Where | What you'll find | Check before you buy |
|---|---|---|
| A studio's own website, like ours | Hand work, usually made to order | The wait, since it's stitched after you order |
| Etsy and other handmade marketplaces | Hand and machine work, side by side | The seller's process photos and the inside of the cap |
| Big marketplaces | Mostly machine work and patches | The method, which the listing often leaves out |
| Instagram sellers | Either, and rarely labelled | A photo of the inside before you pay |
On any marketplace, the word "handmade" in a filter isn't proof. A seller who stitches by hand can name the stitches, and usually has pictures of work in progress.
Five questions to ask the seller
- Is any part of the embroidery done by machine?
- Can I see the inside of the cap? Knots and thread tails mean a hand. An even grid on a papery backing means a machine.
- How long does this design take to stitch? Somebody who made it will know.
- When will it be dispatched? A "hand-stitched" custom cap that ships tomorrow was probably in a box already.
- Can it be washed? Ours can't go in a machine, and an honest seller will say so.
What to ask an embroidery shop has a longer list for local shops.
Which caps take hand embroidery well
Soft, unstructured caps in denim or cotton twill are the easiest to stitch by hand, because the needle passes through cleanly and the cloth can sit in the hand. Every cap we make is one of these: a six-panel shape in acid-wash denim or washed cotton, with a curved brim and an adjustable backstrap.
Stiff, structured fronts are harder. The buckram inside resists the needle, which slows the work. If a seller offers dense hand embroidery on a rigid snapback at a low price and a short lead time, ask the five questions.

What we sell
- About thirty designs, from about ₹999 to about ₹1,859. Most are about ₹1,231.
- Florals and sunflowers from about ₹999.
- A monogram cap at about ₹1,198, with your initial built from small stitched roses.
- Twelve zodiac caps at about ₹1,231, each sign in its own colours.
All of them are in the hand-embroidered caps collection.

Ordering a custom cap
A cap is the easiest custom piece to give, because there's no size to guess. Type the initial or sign in the order note, and we confirm it with you on WhatsApp before stitching.
Allow about 3 days of stitching for a monogram and 5 to 7 for a zodiac cap, before dispatch. Delivery comes on top. The custom initials cap guide shows letter styles, and what to write in the order note has examples.

Looking after it
Spot clean only. Dab the mark with a damp cloth and a drop of mild detergent, then let the cap dry in shade. A washing machine bends the brim and pulls at the stitches, and a dryer finishes the job. Caring for embroidered caps and socks goes into detail.
Not sure which style suits you? The embroidered cap buying guide compares shapes, washes and motifs.

How much does a hand-embroidered cap cost?
Ours run from about ₹999 to about ₹1,859, and most are about ₹1,231.
Can I get a custom hand-embroidered cap?
