Short answer. A hand embroidered sweatshirt in India costs ₹1,785 to ₹4,463, with the median at ₹2,500. That is about ₹983 more than the same work on a T-shirt. The gap is fabric and time: 350 GSM fleece costs about twice what jersey does, and the needle moves roughly 30 per cent slower through it.

Most sweatshirt price guides give you a range and no reasoning. So here is our actual list, and the arithmetic behind it.
Forty hand-embroidered sweatshirts and hoodies, stitched and shipped from our studio in Bulandshahr. Two of them are hand-painted as well as embroidered, which drags the average up, so I will show you both numbers.
What a hand embroidered sweatshirt costs in India in 2026
| Measure | Value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Lowest price | ₹1,785 | A chest name or initials, 2 to 4 thread shades, about 4 hours |
| Median price | ₹2,500 | Where most buyers land: a monogram or a mid-size motif |
| Median excluding hand-painted | ₹2,450 | The number to plan around for normal embroidery work |
| Typical ceiling | ₹4,463 | A full front or back panel, 18 or more artisan hours |
| Absolute highest | ₹14,999 | Hand-painted and hand-embroidered. A different category of object |

If you are weighing the same design across garments, the sweatshirt-versus-tee comparison puts six of them side by side.
Notice the shape. Our tee prices bunch hard in one ₹300 window; sweatshirts spread out. That is because a sweatshirt gives an artisan more room to work with, so the range from smallest motif to full panel is simply longer.
Why a sweatshirt costs more than a tee for the same design
Four things, and they stack.
| What changes | Tee (220 GSM) | Sweatshirt (350 GSM) | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blank garment | About ₹258 | About ₹550 | +₹292 |
| Artisan hours, chest motif | 6 hours | 8 hours | +₹383 |
| Consumables | Thread, needles, stabiliser | Plus water-soluble topping | +₹59 |
| Finishing | Wash and press | Rinse topping, re-lift the nap | +₹79 |
| Courier | Light parcel | Heavier parcel | +₹38 |
The topping line surprises people. Fleece has a pile, and a stitch laid straight onto pile sinks into it and disappears. So a film of water-soluble stabiliser goes over the top, the artisan stitches through it, and it gets rinsed out afterwards. Skip that step and you get a motif that looks fuzzy and half-buried. What each price band buys
| Band | Artisan hours | What you get | Example |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,785 to ₹1,999 | 4 to 5 | Chest name, initials or a small motif, 2 to 4 shades | Custom Name Sweatshirt |
| ₹2,000 to ₹2,499 | 6 to 8 | Monogram with florals, or a mid-size figure | Floral Loose Fit |
| ₹2,500 to ₹2,999 | 8 to 11 | Larger front motif, more shades, hoodies start here | Custom Name Hoodie |
| ₹3,000 to ₹4,499 | 12 to 18 | Full front or back panel, layered shading | Botanical Orbit |
| ₹4,500 and up | 18+ | Panel work, or embroidery plus hand painting | Sakura Parakeets |

Hoodies cost more again
Every hoodie we sell starts at ₹2,678, and none of the cheap bands apply. Two reasons. The hood itself is more fabric, and the hood seam plus the kangaroo pocket cut down where a motif can physically go, which pushes most hoodie designs onto the chest or the back at a larger size.

The ₹900 embroidered sweatshirt problem
You will see hand-embroidered sweatshirts listed at ₹799 and ₹999. Work it through.
A 350 GSM fleece blank costs about ₹550 landed. Courier on a sweatshirt-weight parcel is ₹160 to ₹200. Payment and platform fees take another 6 to 9 per cent. You are past ₹800 before a needle moves. Which leaves nothing at all for four hours of skilled work.
It is machine embroidery on thin fleece, usually 280 GSM, sold under the wrong name. Machine work is fine. Selling it as hand work at hand-work prices is not. Here are eight checks that catch it.
If your ceiling is genuinely ₹2,000, real hand work exists there. See what ₹1,785 buys.

Does ordering more than one help?
By 8 to 12 per cent at twenty pieces, and no further. Hand embroidery has almost no setup to spread across a run, so the tenth sweatshirt takes the same eight hours as the first. What does get shared is design and sampling.
For corporate gifting we quote on that basis and say so on the first call. If you need 200 identical pieces, machine embroidery is the honest answer.
Where the money goes
Artisan wages and the studio floor take about 42 per cent of a mid-range sweatshirt. The blank fleece takes another 22. We broke one ₹2,500 piece down rupee by rupee in this cost breakdown.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a hand embroidered sweatshirt cost in India?
₹1,785 to ₹4,463 at Vee Threads, with a median of ₹2,500. A chest name sits around ₹1,785, a monogram with florals around ₹2,310, and a full panel ₹3,000 and above.
Why do embroidered sweatshirts cost more than embroidered T-shirts?
Four stacked reasons: the 350 GSM fleece blank costs about ₹292 more than a 220 GSM tee, stitching takes roughly 30 per cent longer, fleece needs a water-soluble topping film, and the parcel is heavier to ship.
How much is an embroidered hoodie?
₹2,678 to ₹3,800. Hoodies cost more than sweatshirts because there is more fabric, and the hood seam plus kangaroo pocket restrict where a motif can sit, which pushes designs larger.
Is a ₹900 hand embroidered sweatshirt possible?
No. The 350 GSM blank, courier and payment fees alone reach about ₹800, leaving nothing for four hours of hand stitching. At that price it is machine embroidery, usually on thinner 280 GSM fleece.
Do bulk orders reduce the price much?
Only by 8 to 12 per cent at twenty pieces. There is no setup cost to amortise across a hand-stitched run, so per-garment hours stay the same. Design and sampling are the only shared costs.
